Fantasy A-League Wrap – Week 19

Over 85,000 fans came through the turnstiles in week 19, and were witness to some scintiallting A-League matches. 18 goals, 25 bookings, goalkeepers in form, midfielders showing their class – week 19 provided all of that and more to fantasy A-League managers. And I know we say it each week, but you can STILL join up to our Ultimate A-League and Pelé Sports A-League fantasy competition, to have the chance to win a $100 Pelé voucher every single week! Just use the league code 955435 to join up at the official A-League fantasy website! But, for now, onto all the fantasy related business you need to know!

Top scoring players:

One player stood head and shoulders above this week, scoring a massive 44 points thanks to his two goals against Adelaide on Sunday. Western Sydney’s Youssouf Hersi was that man, and was one of the standout players across the weekend. Newcastle’s Ryan Griffiths pocketed two penalties to rack up 26 points, whilst Hersi’s teammate Mark Bridge totted up 24 points thanks to his strike. Wellington’s Jeremy Brockie and Brisbane’s Besart Berisha both scored themselves 22 points, and were the next best.

Value picks:

It really is getting more and more difficult to find value trade opportunities. However, we have got a few to offer this week:

  • In goals, Central Coast’s Mathew Ryan ($211,500) is a sure bet to between the posts for the remainder of the season, and with the Mariners playing tight, defensive football, he’s sure to keep a few clean sheets in the run into the finals.
  • Ryan’s teammate Patrick Zwaanswijk is only $171,000, and is almost a shoo-in to play as long as he is fit enough to. He’s also a definite goal scoring chance from set pieces, both with his boot and with his head.
  • Broich, Broich, Broich! $180,700 is all the reigning Johnny Warren medallist will set you back, and with the German taking the captain’s armband the last few weeks with Matt Smith’s absence, we expect Broich to continue his good points scoring form (24 points the last 2 weeks).
  • Heart’s David Williams has looked a step above his usual level this year, and last week in the Melbourne derby he caused all sorts of trouble for the Victory defence. At just $155,500, Williams seems a certain starter each week under John Aloisi, and is well worth getting into your team.

Worth noting:

Returning from mandatory one-match suspensions are Nick Montgomery, Tony Lochhead, Sam Gallaway, Fabio, Tiago Calvano, Diogo Ferreira, Jason Hoffman, Jeronimo Neumann and Jerome Polenz. Nick Fitzgerald will also return following the ‘gentleman’s agreement’ between Brisbane and Central Coast that ruled him out last week. On the flipside, Terry McFlynn, Ben Sigmund, Nigel Boogaard, Joel Griffiths and Matt Jurman are all unavailable this week due to suspension.

Leo Bertos and Nick Ansell are both added to the injury list this week, while Brett Emerton, Jason Culina, Michael Beauchamp and Pedj Bojic have all recovered from their respective injuries to be selected this week.

If you’d like more info on suspensions, injuries and general ins-and-outs, we recommend reading up on the ins-and-out list, as well as the full A-League injury list.

Prize winner:

Now, it’s time to announce the weekly Pelé Sports prize winner in the Ultimate A-League fantasy league competition. Winning by a tiny margin of just 2 points, and with a total of 168 points, it’s Cassie R (“Cassies Champs”). Congratulations Cassie, and to claim your $100 Pelé voucher, simply send us an email to enquiries@ultimatealeague.com.

We’ve got another football boot to feature from Pelé Sports this week, and perhaps it’s something that Cassie may like to consider spending her $100 voucher on. The Redeemer, a boot designed with pressure dissipation channels for the best possible absorption and dilution of force! its anatomical flex zones, internal heel stabilizer and padded lining ensure optimum comfort, while the multiple density Firm Ground outsole and the top quality sporting leather make this a must have boot!
