Round Recap – Week 23

RoundRecapIt had to happen eventually, but Adelaide United’s 14 game winning streak finally came to an end in round 23 at the hands of Melbourne City.

That allowed City to pull within a point of the Reds on the A-League ladder, whilst Brisbane jumped up into first thanks to a 5-0 thumping of the Victory.

Perth Glory continued their march up the table with a 4-0 demolition of the Mariners and, after Sydney went down to the Phoenix 3-1 earlier that day, the Glory now sit 4 points (plus goal difference) inside the top 6.

Then, finally, on Sunday, the Wanderers joined Brisbane at the top of the A-League ladder with a 1-0 win over the Newcastle Jets.

Monday Roundup

You can now listen to a weekly round-up of the A-League action, with special guests, awards, clips and much more on the Ultimate A-League Podcast’s “Monday Roundup”:

Goal of the week

Given his previous shooting history at Coopers Stadium, Nick Fitzgerald’s winning goal on Friday night for Melbourne City was a wonder to behold. Moment of the week

Sure, it took a big deflection, but Brisbane’s Corey Brown wouldn’t have cared, as he finally found the back of the net after 45 scoreless A-League games. Not only that, his goal was the third in a comprehensive smacking of last season’s A-League champions Melbourne Victory. It was certainly a night to savour, for Roar fans and players alike:
