Four Point Preview – Week 24

stat1A-League fans are a savvy bunch, absorbing rich commentary and analysis of the game like they never have before. Pouring over statistical analyses and match reports in order to gain a better understanding of their team, or to realise some kind of fantasy football advantage.

So, rather than produce a long list of obscure statistics for each game, we’ve decided to condense it down to just four points for each of the games this week – be it milestones, losing streaks, or record attendance averages.

Full details on each of this week’s fixtures, including previous meetings, injuries and more, are available from the Fixtures section of our website.

Adelaide United vs Sydney FC
Friday 7:30pm AET, Coopers Stadium

  • Sydney have won just 1 of their last 5 matches against Adelaide United (1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses).
  • Adelaide’s Jeronimo Neumann has scored 13 goals in 24 matches at Coopers Stadium. Adelaide have never lost when he scores a goal at home (8 wins, 1 draw).
  • Adelaide haven’t lost at Coopers Stadium in their last 7 matches there (5 wins, 2 draws; 17 GF, 5 GA).
  • Last time these sides met, Adelaide defeated Sydney 3-0 at Allianz Stadium (Goals to Djite, Ferreira and Jeronimo).

Newcastle Jets vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday 5:30pm AET, Hunter Stadium

  • Wellington have a favourable record at Hunter Stadium, recording 5 wins and a draw in their 9 matches at the venue.
  • Wellington have won their last 3 matches at Hunter Stadium (3-2, 3-0 and 1-0).
  • In their last 8 matches, the Jets have kept 3 clean sheets, whilst the Phoenix have kept none.
  • Ben Sigmund will miss this week’s game through suspension. In the last 3 seasons, Sigmund has missed just 3 games – Wellington have lost all of them.

Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday 7:45pm AET, Suncorp Stadium

  • Despite his ruthlessness in front of goal, without Besart Berisha this season the Roar have recorded 5 wins and just 2 losses.
  • Melbourne Victory have not registered a win at Suncorp Stadium since Nov 21, 2009 (4 losses and 1 draw since then).
  • Victory have not kept a clean sheet in their last 13 A-League matches (Last vs. Perth Glory in Round 10).
  • If he scores tonight, Archie Thompson (76) will join Shane Smeltz (77) at the top of the all-time A-League goal scoring list.

Melbourne Heart vs Central Coast Mariners
Sunday 3:00pm AET, AAMI Park

  • If involved, Massimo Murdocca will this week play his 186th A-League game, taking him to 5th in all-time A-League appearances.
  • These teams have met 6 times at AAMI Park, with Central Coast winning 3, Heart 1, with 2 draws.
  • Both clashes between these sides this season have ended in draws (0-0 at CC Stadium, 2-2 at AAMI Park).
  • Central Coast have won just once outside of New South Wales this season (4 losses, 2 draws, 1 win).

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Perth Glory
Sunday 5:00pm AET, Pirtek Stadium

  • Perth’s poor away record this season is compounded by the fact they have lost both clashes with Western Sydney at Pirtek Stadium in the past (3-1 and 1-0 losses).
  • In 6 previous meetings between these clubs, Western Sydney have won 5, with 1 draw.
  • This game sees a matchup of the worst offensive team (Perth, 22 goals) and the 2nd best defensive team (Wanderers, 24 conceded).
  • The Glory are currently on a 9 game winless streak (6 losses, 3 draws).
