Round Recap – Week 15

RoundRecap_week15The Asian Cup has been run and won, and now the A-League is back in full swing. Not only that, but over the 5 games in round 15 we saw 27 goals at a rate of 5.4 per game – an A-League all-time record!

Last weekend, the Glory and Victory played out a scintillating 3-3 draw in the West, after Adelaide had trounced the hapless Jets 7-0 the night before.

Elsewhere, Sydney smacked the Mariners 5-1 in Gosford, City downed the winless Wanderers 2-1, and Jean Carlos Solorzano’s late strike for Brisbane saw them take out an entertaining game at Suncorp Stadium 3-2 on Monday night.

Goal of the week

It’s tough to go past Isaias Sanchez’s curling, long-range effort in the 7-0 rout of Newcastle to kick-off week 15…so we won’t. Fahid Ben Khalfallah’s outside-of-the-boot strike against Perth was also pretty impressive, but not quite good enough this time around.

Moment of the week

Down 3-1 with a tick over 10 minutes left in the game, it looked as if Perth were going to drop all three points against the Victory last weekend. From there, though, the Glory boys staged a stunning turnaround – scoring twice in the final ten minutes, and going close to nicking the win in the dying moments of injury time.

Player of the Season

Marcelo Carrusca took all 3 votes with a sublime performance in the big win over Newcastle, while Aaron Mooy replied with 3 votes of his own last Sunday in the win over the Wanderers. That leaves Adelaide’s talisman just two clear of the City midfielder, with Nathan Burns and Fahid Ben Khalfallah the next best on 14 and 13 respectively:

Last Week: Adelaide United 7-0 Newcastle Jets

A-League football returned in scintillating style as Adelaide United thrashed Newcastle Jets 7-0 at Coopers Stadium.

Marcelo Carrusca and Bruce Djite both scored braces, while goals from Nigel Boogard, Sergio Cirio, and Isaias made for a memorable margin although it is one Newcastle will want to forget quickly.
