Fantasy A-League Wrap – Week 21
It was a week of 2′s in week 21 of the A-League, with all 5 games won by teams who scored two goals. Only two clean sheets and just 13 goals across the entire weekend meant that it was going to be a difficult week to score points. We’re in the home stretch, but you can always join up to our Ultimate A-League and Pelé Sports A-League fantasy competition, to have the chance to win a $100 Pelé voucher every single week of the season! Just use the league code 955435 to join up at the official A-League fantasy website! But now, bring forth the fantasy update!
Top scoring players:
Ryan Griffiths‘ winning goal against the Heart last Friday netted him 24 points, and the top spot on the points list this week. Brisbane pairing Shane Stefanutto (assist, 2-0 win) and Steve Lustica (goal, 2-0 win) were the next best on 22 points, with Western Sydney’s Iacopo La Rocca rounding out the top 4 with a handy 20 points courtesy of his scrambling goal against the Victory on Saturday.
Value picks:
With quality players costing an arm and a leg, it’s tough to find some value trades and selections. However, here is what we have for you this week:
- Josh Rose ($213,000) is still a great value pick-up in defence, as long as Central Coast turn around their form from a dismal showing in Perth last weekend. He’s played all 21 matches for the Mariners in 2012/13, so he’s a shoo-in for a starting berth and some handy fantasy points.
- In midfield, the Roar’s Thomas Broich is still under $200,000, and with some stability in the coaching ranks, Brisbane finally look like making a late charge towards the finals. If they’re going to do that, you can bet Broich will be involved heavily.
- Eugene Galekovic is priced at $169,600, but is still one of the A-League’s premier goalkeepers. With 26 points from his last two outings, expect Galekovic’s price to climb after week 22 – so if you’re going to grab him, make sure it’s this week.
Worth noting:
Just the two suspensions league-wide this week, with Adelaide defender Iain Fyfe and Heart centre half Patrick Gerhardt both suspended for accumulation of cards. Adriano Pellegrino, Adama Traore, Jeremy Brockie, Cassio, Joel Griffiths, Ali Abbas and Brett Emerton will all return from their suspensions for week 21.
In terms of injuries, there’s no new players on the injury list. Good news for most fantasy managers, but in case you want to make sure your players are definitely in this week, we recommend reading up on the ins-and-outs list and the full A-League injury list.
Prize winner:
Now, it’s time to announce the weekly Pelé Sports prize winner in the Ultimate A-League fantasy league competition. It was a low scoring week this week, and winning by a measly 2 points, it’s Dean S (“Woodford Wanderers”) on 128 points.
